Why is so important to protection the eyes of young children?
Most experts believe our eyes get 80 percent of their total lifetime exposure to the sun's UV rays by age 18. Studies have shown that excessive lifetime exposure to UV radiation can increase the chance of developing cataracts and other eye problems. Children's eyes are more susceptible to UV radiation than adult eyes because the lenses inside young eyes are less capable of filtering UV rays.
Children’s eyes do not yet have a mature capacity for ocular protection (it takes about 25 years to develop). In the meantime, UV rays are permanently breaking down the eye’s capacity to absorb sunlight. Exposure without protection is dangerous for the surface of the eye, as well as for the crystalline lens and retina.
Kids spend much more time outdoors than most adults do; therefore sunglasses that block 100 percent of the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays are a must for children. Kids should start wearing protective sunglasses outdoors as soon as they begin playing in direct sunlight. UV rays increase at high altitudes, in tropical locales and in highly reflective environments (such as in snow or around water).
At CoolSunglassesforKids.com we only sell 100% UV sunglasses. We offer many wrap-around designs that help reduce the amount of ambient light that reaches the eye.
